Monster Mash Giveaway

Today my students earned a Monster Mash Party!

We started our Monster Mash today by reading the book, I Need My Monster by Amanda Noll.  I absolutely love the illustrations in this book.  It is filled with loads of descriptive words and is great for Halloween.  After our read aloud, students responded to some multiple choice, short response, and extended response questions.  You can find my literature pack on this book here.

Then students wrote letters to the monster under the bed persuading him to come back along with other fun monster related writing prompts.  They topped their papers with cute monsters and we used these to decorate our hallway.  You can find my monster theme writing pack here.

For math, students reviewed addition and subtraction problems with a monster match-up activity during centers.

We ate a delicious monster cupcakes for snack and drank some juice.

We also ate a monster mash snack containing popcorn, M&Ms and candy corn while we watched a few clips from the movie Monsters, Inc.!

I created a little Friday freebie for you.  It includes these two worksheets.

I have never heard of this book but it looks so cute! I don't have a favorite Halloween read aloud book, though. We have never done anything for Halloween at our school until this year. I'm looking high and low now for the best book to read to my class this year.

Love that book. I'm going to have to check it out!

As for my favorite Halloween book, I'm not sure . . . I usually don't do much for Halloween. It's my least favorite holiday. Not sure why. But seeing all the cute stuff out there is starting to change my mind!

This book is great for Halloween...but does not make any reference of Halloween. It's the perfect book if you teach at a school that does not want you to celebrate the holiday!

Tell Me a Scary Story, But Not Too Scary. It even came with a CD where the author reads it aloud.

Ahh I don't really know if I have a favorite Halloween read aloud.. I don't read to my kids a lot of Holiday books (shame on me!) but I do LOVE when THEY are the authors and share their scary stories :) They love sitting in the author's chair and showing what they got as writers!! :)
